Abandoned carts mean lost revenue, but they don’t have to stay that way. With Whatchimp, you can automatically send WhatsApp reminders to recover abandoned carts. These reminders can include discount coupons or direct links to complete the purchase. This guide walks you through setting up WooCommerce abandoned cart recovery using Whatchimp’s webhook workflow.

When is a Cart Considered Abandoned? #
WooCommerce doesn’t have a built-in abandoned cart feature, but a cart is considered abandoned when a customer:
- Adds products to their cart.
- Enters contact details (including phone number).
- Leaves without completing payment.
When this happens, Whatchimp automatically triggers a WhatsApp reminder.
Creating a Message Template #
- Go to WhatsApp Bot Manager → Message Templates → Click Create.
- Enter a name, locale, and category (Marketing).
- Write the message body, including a discount or incentive.
- Add a call-to-action button linking back to the cart.
- Save and sync the template. Once approved, it’s ready for use.
Setting Up the Webhook Workflow #
- Go to Webhook Workflow in Whatchimp’s dashboard.
- Click Create, then:
- Enter a name for the workflow.
- Select the WhatsApp account.
- Choose the approved message template.
- Click Create Webhook and copy the generated Webhook URL and keep this window as it is. We have to use this URL in the next step.
Installing the WooCommerce Abandoned Cart Webhook Plugin #
- In Whatchimp, go to Integrations → E-Commerce.
- Click the button ‘Download WooCommerce Abandoned Cart Webhook Plugin’.
- Install and activate the plugin in WordPress.
- Go to Settings in WordPress Dashboard and select the option ‘Abandoned Cart Webhook Setting’ and paste the Webhook URL in the Webhook URL field and click Save Changes.
- In Whatchimp, click Capture Webhook Response.
- In WordPress, click Send Sample Webhook.
Mapping Webhook Data With Sample Data #
- From the Webhook Workflow campaign page, go to “Webhook Response Mapping”
- Phone Number → Billing phone number.
- Any additional custom fields if needed.
- Save the workflow.
Removing the “+” Sign from Phone Numbers #
WhatsApp doesn’t allow the “+” sign in phone numbers. To fix this:
- In Webhook Workflow, go to Data Formatters → Click New.
- Set Action to Trim Left.
- In the Trim Field, enter “+”.
- Save and apply the formatter.
With Whatchimp, you can automate WhatsApp reminders, recover abandoned carts, and boost revenue. Set up your campaign today and turn abandoned carts into sales!
